  • Resources for Spatial Data in SQL Server 2008

As you may be aware we recently hosted a meeting of the UK SQL Server User Group featuring Michael Rys. For those of you who weren't able to jot down the resources he mentioned in his presentation I have copied and pasted them in below. Thanks to Michael for posting them through - I didn't have time either! :o) Spatial Site: . ...
  • SQLBits III Session Submissions Deadline Update

In an earlier post I mentioned that the 4th July had been set as the deadline for submission of session abstracts.  This deadline has now been extended till July 11th as there are still a number of people who we are waiting to hear from.  For those of you still mulling over your session submissions you now have exactly a week to get your ...
  • Spatial Data Eye Candy

In an earlier post I mentioned the new visualisation functionality for spatial data.  Michael Rys kindly pointed me in the direction of Isaac's blog that has some pictures of the new "Spatial Data" tab and resulting visualisation.  As confirmed in the comments below the blog this is using some of the Dundas controls that ...

  • Update on T-SQL MERGE

The MERGE syntax I used here has changed. In 2008 RC0 the ''WHEN SOURCE NOT MATCHED'' clause is replaced with ''WHEN NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE'' which is supposed to make the meaning clearer. Although MERGE is part of standard SQL 2003 it's worth noting that the SOURCE NOT MATCHED / NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE clause is not part of the standard. ...

  • Fuzzyness

SQL Server 2008 is introducing some interesting querying and storage enhancements such as the introduction of spatial data and the FILESTREAM attribute on VARBINARY(MAX) columns and my thoughts have recently turned to what querying enhancements we are going to see in future versions. I was chatting to Rob Farley recently and we started to wonder ...
