Stuart Preston's Blog

Mostly about Visual Studio Team System, Team Foundation Server, Engineering Practices and Application Lifecycle Management.

I passed 70-510 - my first MCP exam.

I won't call it a miracle as I've been using and developing for Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server for over 2 years now, but with the release of the MCTS: Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server exam recently, I figured I should go and do it before Orcas gets released later this year (hopefully calendar rather than fiscal!)

Having passed with a reasonably respectful score of 816 (pass park 700) I now get the honour of using the logo below :)

In my opinion there isn't much that can prepare you for this exam besides some real world implementation experience; because it is so new there do not yet seem to be any practice exams; the range of content contained in the exam is also fairly wide (from developing a custom task for MSBuild to some real world branching and merging strategies).  Make sure you know your stuff on Team Foundation Server Proxy, all the switches to the Team Foundation command line tools, and watch out for questions that target functionality that is only available with Service Pack 1 !

I am glad you passed the exam and I also like your feedback on having to have real world experience to pass! That is exactly what we were going for!!! I helped to define the OD, I wrote around 20 of the questions and did the Alpha. Nice meeting you at Tech Ed!
