Keni Barwick - The Mobile Guy

rants and raves of all things Microsoft Windows Mobile - Moved to http://www.theMobileGuy.net

MEDC 2007 Keynote and stuff

It was very apparent to me that this years keynote was an attempt to explain why MS has moved the Windows Mobile division into the Entertainment & Devices Division.

One fact that I didn't know was that 90% phones bought by individuals and brought into the enterprise...

Next came the video’s of add’s from around the world showing the Windows mobile devices in a very consumer focused way. One thing I did like from them is even though some say simulated images on screen it’s easy to see that they actual aren’t... O the joy of a good screen...

We are treated to other facts and figures with my favorite one: "Windows Mobile is the fastest growing mobile device OS in the world"

Some thing that was slipped in, but without much discussion was the change in the Application Signing Process... Now we only need to sign the application not the separate assembleys... (Phew!)

Then it was time for device news, a new phone no less... Enter the "O-Phone" - I'll let these guys tell you more.

Derek Synder came on to show us some cool stuff regarding the Compact Framework 3.5, the best for me was LINQ this caused me to clap along with a few others! He also showed a quick glimpse of Unit testing for device applications in Orcas...

He went on to talk about CF3.5's store and forward feature using WCF using direct push, which is a great feature, but only any good if you have exchange 2007... Booo

Then came the Silverlight demo, I was very glad to see it will work on Windows Mobile...  Works well too... Full experience... But it is via a player, bummer...

Mike Hall and Robbie then went on to talk about Embedded things, Home server and showed yet another digital picture frame... I kinda zoned out by that point...

And then that was it! As quickly as it began, it ended... So in all it was not very exciting, but I kinda knew the keynote would be...

Today is a packed day, with device management all morning and then testing in Orcas, WPF, AJAX and Communications server in the afternoon... Then it's to Tao for a Eastern Clubbing experiance... (I'm guessing it'll be cruddy Rap and RnB just like last night in Pure)

O and thank goodness for Aveeno... As it says on the tube, Intense Relief for Chapped or Cracked lips... TOTALLY saved me... I can smile again!

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. As my colleague reminded me yesterday, "Air conditioning works by removing moisture from air... and we're in Las Vegas, which has no moisture in the air to start with." I think we're well into anti-moisture territory in The Venetian today.
