I have spent the last couple of days helping a client over the initial hurdles of SSIS familiarisation. I enjoy doing gigs like this because it highlights to me what difficulties people have when they first encounter SSIS and is a good reminder of the difficulties that I faced when I first encountered the product back in the heady days of summer '04.
Today I was attempting to explain the vagaries of eventhandlers and event propogation and I realised that its not a particularly easy topic to get one's head around hence I've produced a screencast that demonstrates some of the peculiarities. The video covers:
- A single event getting caught by more than one eventhandler
- Eventhandlers themselves throwing events
- The use of @[System::Propogate]
At one point in the video I challenge you to predict what the behaviour of the demo package is going to be at execution-time. Have a guess and let me know in the comments below if you get it right. The video is about 8 minutes long by the way.
Typically if you are reading this blog entry in a blog reader then you won't be able to see the video hence you can view it directly on my blog, Youtube, MSN Video or you can download a copy of it from my Skydrive.
