Uninstalling Microsoft Device Emulator

A short one this.

I've just been attempting to install SQL Server September CTP. I uninstalled the previous version and also the the previous version of Visual Studio.

When I tried re-installing Visual Studio I got a message saying that Microsoft Device Eulator was still installed. Looked in Add/Remove Programs and sure enough, it was.

Except it wasn't, it wasn't anywhere to be found in "C:\Program Files" so trying to uninstall from Add/Remove Programs of course failed.

To fix this I searched through the registry for "emulator" - anything that it found I deleted.

I've kicked off the install again and it seems to be working OK. We shall see!!

Oh and by the way I'm doing this on VirtualPC which when you start messing about with the registry is obviously a good idea!

I had the same problem with some J# redistributables (not on a VPC!) It was fun blasting away through the registry with only this little voice in the back of my head trying to keep me in line (do you need that, what about, hey man!) But delete I did. Everything seems to work, but I figure to do a complete build after the final shipment of 2005 :)
