PerformancePoint CTP3 - Possible release date and some future features in Monitoring and Analytics.

I was asked last night whilst presenting Monitoring and Analytics in CTP2 to the UK SQL BI users group (www.sqlserverfaq.com) if I knew when CTP3 was due out.

This from Jeff Zhu at Microsoft on the newsgroup.

The date may be around July 20th.

Most of changes in CTP3 of Planning will be bug fixes. We also have some security enhancement in the application, more documentation, and a few of feature improvements. Don't expect many new features in CTP3.

Just to add to that what I think will be coming for the Monitoring and Analytics component of Performance Point in CTP3.

  • Navigational capabilities such as drill-down, drill-up, cross drill and drill to detail in the Analytic Chart and Grid report views.
  • Office Web Component pivot table and chart reports likely to be phased out in favour of Analytic Chart and Grid views as similar rendering, functionality.
  • Improved MDX editor for use in creating Analytic Charts and Grids.
  • Improved Member picker and dimension selectors, hopefully more like the Setup control in Proclarity allowing descendants, children, all leaf level etc.
  • More Analytic chart types than the current bar and line, i.e. at least pie charts - Will the decomposition view from Proclarity appear (who knows - hope so).
  • Parameters within dashboard designer to be created from a variety of data source including Excel.
Hope that helps.
P.S. Thanks to everyone who turned up last night to listen to Reed Jacobson talk on PerformancePoint Planning, Allan Mitchell on SSIS and Data Warehousing and myself on Monitoring and Analytics in PerformancePoint. Hope you found them all useful and informative. Big thanks also to Chris Webb (http://cwebbbi.spaces.live.com/) and Simon Sabin (http://sqlblogcasts.com/blogs/simons/) for organising the event along with James Rowland-Jones of Conchango (http://blogs.conchango.com/jamesrowlandjones/).

Hi,

Is it possible to add a second filter over a report or Dashboard on Perfomance Point Monitoring CTP3?

We´d like those filters acting over the data grid.

Thanks

Diogo

What's the newsgroup you are referring to? What are the relevant Performance Point groups where newbies should go after leaving Google emptyhanded?

Cheers
